6:30 – 9:00pm, Guided Practica & Clinic, $10. An open forum with lots of time for practice with different partners and lot of instructor availability. Our group coaching concept has evolved into a very productive clinic format. Practicas in Buenos Aires are always guided. It doesn’t do much good to keep practicing the same mistakes over and over again. Tango dancers at every level need a third eye to find the issue.
Chas & Gaia will be close by to answer questions on any subject. We will also take the liberty to draw your attention to concerns you may not be aware of. This “clinic” environment gives us the opportunity to help you fine tune your tango in quick, easily digestible adjustments.
Take responsibility for challenging yourself. In a formal class setting we structure the session to force you to try new things and try those things with different partners. In this open forum it will be easy to stick to the things you know, with the people you know. We will continue to encourage you to keep raising the bar on your tango by trying different things with different people but we want you to take the responsibility to challenge yourself. Everyone will be free in this environment to ask anyone to practice an element with him or her, and everyone will be free to say “No thanks” or “Not tonight” or “Maybe later”.
Come with, or work with a partner! This guided practica/Clinic environment is a great opportunity to work exclusively with a partner. For whatever reason, if you need time with a specific person this is the place to work. You might come together or you might hookup here. Without an organized partner rotation, you can choose to remain with one person for part or all of the clinic. We suggest you don’t make a habit of this but at regular intervals it can be helpful.
Specific material and structure will remain an underlying feature in our Friday sessions. We will offer specific material in technique, and show elements, steps or figures for you to chew on during the evening. Here is the schedule:
· 6:30 Technique For All. At the very beginning we will offer a short but focused mini-workshop on the fundamental structure of Argentine Tango. Again, this will be offered AT THE VERY BEGINNING: 6:30 sharp. Please be on time, shoes on and ready to go at 6:30! If you are coming for the first time please call ahead and plan to arrive 15 minutes early. The longer you have been dancing tango, the more you will get out of this material and honestly, EVERYONE needs it. If you have been dancing tango for any length of time and have never been to our classes, please consider this material mandatory.
· 7:15 A Figure. At around 7:15 or so we will give you a piece of material to add to your repertoire. It could be an element, step, pattern, figure or trick that is new to you, or one on which you can improve. We will try to announce in advance what the step will be if possible. Regardless, the material will always be appropriate for everyone in attendance. If there is a wide range of experience levels present, we will offer more than one variation.
· 8:15 B Figure. The time is approximate but at about 8:15 we will offer another step for your repertoire. Generally speaking, B Figure will be more challenging than A Figure, but we will always take into consideration the skill level of those in the room and choose a figure or element accordingly.
We are all grownups here: One of our goals in developing this new format is to give a person the opportunity to take more responsibility in their own tango education. We are here to give you guidance and structure and we will offer as little or as much input as you desire. We will take the initiative when the opportunity arises but we want you to be proactive. Ask questions when needed or simply say “This isn’t working!” and we will show you how to make it work. Find someone to try it with, or ask us to suggest someone. Work on the pattern we are showing or the one you saw in parts unknown (we can help with either). Arrive when you wish and leave when you wish, the price remains the same.
We are very excited about our new format and know it will be rewarding for everyone. One of the primary benefits in fact is the ability for us to truly and efficiently address the needs of ALL experience levels at once.
